Form Follows Function Backwards

I spend a LOT of time studying, learning and teaching others to help them along the way but today I was reminded of something not once but TWICE.  I want to share the story because while it seems very simple on the outside I think that it is easily forgotten.

Earlier this week, I was putting up some landscape edging, I went to the store, bought all the right “stuff”, came home and in 90 degree temps took out my handy dandy “baby hammer” – that’s what I call it, its only 6 oz but because I have small hands I LOVE my little hammer, anyway I digress,  I start driving the landscape spikes for the edging.  Pound, Pound, Pound.. I had to hit those darn things about 60 times and I even broke a couple trying to drive them into the ground.

My arm was tired, I was sweating and there were about 20 more to go… Pound Pound Pound… (I can see my neighbors pointing and laughing at me now).  When it dawned on me.. Candace a hammer is the right tool, but you don’t have the RIGHT hammer for that job.  Off I go, buy a good 20 oz claw hammer and in 20 minutes the job is DONE, ok so my arm is still tired but I’m done.  Simple concept.. one I had completely ignored!

More Twitter Tools – “TweedleDM” & “TwitWall”

Twitter users and others continue to put out new Twitter Tools at an amazing pace.  Today I read about a couple of new ones announced that you may or may not have heard of.

The first is TweedleDM which you can find at http://tweedledm.com/ .  TweedleDM is a Twitter aggregator that allows you to search  direct messages in your twitter account with keywords, username, or whatever you like.  It pulls direct messages from twitter and allows you to search them.  The first time you use the application it is a bit slow because it has to download and organize your direct messages but have patience, if you have a lot of direct messages this is a great way to search.

When you get to TweedleDM.com first log into your twitter account on that page then type your first search.. You can search sent, received or all direct messages in your account.

The second Twitter Tool is called TwitWall which you can find at http://twitwall.com/ This is a great little application developed by Michael E. Carluen back in 2008… funny I just heard of it, but it is great for those people who have trouble fitting their posts into 140 characters.

TwitWall allows you to embed video, podcast, pictures… all kinds of interesting information in your Twitter account.  I haven’t had much time to play with it yet, but you can see a really good example at http://twitwall.com/view/?who=mecarluen

Have fun with this one :) Just playing around
